A total number of 480 Officers including 7 Senior Brigadiers and 8034 other ranks of the Sri Lanka Army to be promoted to their next rank in view of 74th National Independence Day.
Army Spokesman Brigadier Nilantha Premaratna said that the officers and other ranks were given promotions by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the recommendation of Army Commander General Shavendra Silva and the Ministry of Defence.
Accordingly, seven Senior Brigadiers to the rank of Major General, 16 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier, 36 Lt. Colonels to the rank of Colonel, 50 Majors to the rank of Lt. Colonels, 207 Captains to the rank of Majors, 94 Lieutenants to the rank of Captains, 70 2nd Lieutenants to the rank of Lieutenants will receive these National Independence Day promotions on February 4, 2022.
Meanwhile, the spokesman said that a record number of 4341 officers and 86,741 Other Ranks have been promoted since General Shavendra Silva took the mantle of the Army Command on August 18, 2019 to-date.(DSB)
