Common opposition stalwart and MP Rajitha Senaratne today levelled the accusing finger at Galle District UPFA MP Nishantha Muthuhettigama for Wednesday’s arson attack on the stage that had been erected at Wanduramba for the public rally of Common Opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
Dr. Senaratne said the common opposition candidate’s camp possessed material evidence to prove Muthuhettigama’s involvement in the crime as a person nearby had recorded on video the arson attack carried out by the controversial parliamentarian with the help of a group of youths on Wednesday.
“The government has put in place a planned strategy of sabotage on common opposition candidate’s election propaganda with thuggery and intimidation. The UPFA also attempted to disrupt public meetings of the Common Opposition candidate conducted on Wednesday at Habaraduwa and Balapitiya. This is quite the opposite of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s claim that he does not condone this kind of acts of sabotage. But in reality it seems this rhetoric sounds hollow,” Dr. Senaratne stressed.
