elephant has been arrested by potuwil police.

This was an avoidable tragedy. A wrong identification. Though some elephants use to get closer to them by humans the guys may have forgot it is a wild animal.

Hardly any wild animals or true wildernesses in Europe. People take wild beasts too lightly and think they're docile like the dogs and horses they've abused and domesticated over the years.

How about all the locals who die, why the fuss for a pale face Friday, 15 March 2024 07:14 PM

The brown skinned don't matter as much when killed by wild animals. Why the fuss about some idiot pale faces who put themselves in danger and faced the consequences. The Ukrainians and Israeli is menace enough for the economic well being of locals. Now are EU citizens doing harassment to our wildlife too?

this animal should be killed for killing a human! Cannot understand how sri lanka allows animals to kill humans and can get away with all this. Human life is more important than an animal!

Don Gune Saturday, 16 March 2024 03:20 AM

    You are an imbecile!

    S.K Kumara Saturday, 16 March 2024 03:56 AM

Sri Lanka is a special country where we allow humans to kill other humans. Look at whose bail application was denied by the court yesterday, yes it wasn't a single murder and it was a multi murder case by wrongfully manufacture of medicines. So if you are worried of a dumb ass who forgot to yield and got trampled, what about the half a dozen blackjack's who swallowed the death pill ?

what an ignorant comment. Elephants have the right to roam free on their land.

    RIP. Sad

People shouldn't be allowed to go close to wild animals its a high risk factor and danger to lives getting close to wild animals should be banned and heavy fines should be introduced.....sad news

    Ravana Saturday, 16 March 2024 11:53 AM

I hope the elephant is safe.

Umar Perera Saturday, 16 March 2024 03:06 PM

Well done Jumbo. Tourists and Locals need to respect the territory of animals - especially those that are so endangered now like our elephants

You Sosad Saturday, 16 March 2024 07:42 PM

Well done? How would feel if a friend or family member were trampled to death by an elephant or met an untimely death because of a freak accident? I feel sympathy for anyone that has the displeasure of knowing you.

Human and wildlife are not protected in Sri Lanka properly. There should be constant patrol by the animal control. This is sad death of a tourist. Who is next? More people should be hired and more vehicles and even volunteers could help. Act before another disaster!!!

    So very sad

Mario DUPLO Tuesday, 19 March 2024 04:43 AM

I am very sad for Paolo's death ,great man, dead in a very strange way . I would like to have more details about the accident and the collision with the wild elephant.

Dear tourism minister ls take this as an eye opener despite you go around the world and invite them to Visit Sri Lanka at the same time see there facility , safety and give an assurance how we take care of them for the price you charge from them to show our attractions ,this news can bring a very negative impact , please try to look at these issues in perspective of a person who had never been to our country

The 'tourist' was with 2 locals. Elephants get nasty if surprised or cornered. More farmers kill elephants than elephants kill humans. Local guides also are to blame for not being 'safe' and only thinking of their pockets.
