Colombo, Jan 06 (Daily Mirror) - The suspension on Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) from carrying on the business and activities of a Primary Dealer has been further extended, the Central Bank announced yesterday.

Acting in terms of the Regulations made under the Registered Stock and Securities Ordinance and Local Treasury Bills Ordinance, the financial sector regulator said a decision was made to suspend the controversial primary dealer from operating for a further six months, with effect from January 5, 2024.

The suspension was extended to facilitate the investigations being conducted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The Central Bank first suspended the business of PTL on July 6, 2017 and since then, the suspension has been extended every six months up to now.

PTL is at the centre of an investigation into possible irregularities at a government bond sale in 2015.

What a ineffective system, no one wants to finalise this case, probably due to political reasons. How can the citizens have trust in Sri Lanka systems including investigation team, Central bank and the judiciary. Very pathetic, Sri Lanka has been ruined and destroyed by the politicians over the last 75 years through deception, corruption, racism etc. We are in "no return " situation and keep paying unbearable taxes to keep the country running and feed 225 . All poor countries in the region are fast developing and we are becoming worst than Somalia/Sudan. Until there us change of mindset from the voters, these power hunger politicians will have a gala time.

I totally agree with Daya for his comments. It is a crime to keep this Companys verdict pending for 7 years due to fear may be from top sinister forces. It is absurd. The fate of the staff salaries to them?Give the verdict right or wrong.Company will know where they stand. In India, Pakistan or Bangladesh the law they will definitely not delay and give verdict within short period say 1 year as we have seen.
