Colombo, Jan. 1 (Daily Mirror) - An employee attached to the SriLankan Catering Service was arrested with 66 gold biscuits worth Rs. 176 million while he was attempting to take them out of the airport premises last evening, Customs Media Spokesman Sivali Arukgoda said.
He said the gold biscuits were confiscated and the suspect ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 176 million after a formal customs inspection was conducted by a senior Customs Deputy Director.
Due to the failure of the employee of SriLankan Catering Company to pay this fine, the Katunayake Airport Customs officers took steps to produce him before the Negombo Magistrate's Court, where he was ordered to be remanded till January 11, 2024.
