Sri Lankan Peacebuilder wins Global Rotary Award

Sri Lankan peacebuilder Pushpi Weerakoon has made history by becoming the first Sri Lankan to receive the prestigious Rotary Alumni Global Service Award, the highest honour bestowed by Rotary International upon an outstanding alumnus.

In recognition of her decades-long work in conflict resolution, legal reform, and humanitarian service across Sri Lanka and beyond, Pushpi has also been invited to address the Rotary International Convention 2025, to be held from June 21–25 in Calgary, Canada.

She will join a distinguished lineup of global speakers, including Nobel Laureate Tawakkol Karman and NPR host Scott Simon.

Pushpi’s peacebuilding journey began in Sri Lanka during the post-tsunami recovery and civil conflict period. Since then, she has served in conflict zones across Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas with international organizations like IOM and the UN, while also contributing to Sri Lanka’s own reconciliation efforts.
