Schoolgirl stabbed, ex-soldier found hanging

Colombo, Nov. 15 (Daily Mirror) - A 28-year-old former soldier, suspected of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old schoolgirl, has reportedly taken his own life by hanging himself, police said.

The victim has been identified as Hewage Malki Dilrukshi, a Grade 10 student from Panwilatenna, Millagahamula in Gampola.

According to police investigations, the teenager had been in a romantic relationship with the deceased former soldier.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly committed the murder after becoming suspicious that the girl was involved with another individual.

Investigators have also uncovered that the former soldier had been living in a rented room at the victim’s residence for nearly a year.

Police said the suspect arrived at the girl's home last night (14), fatally stabbed her and later hanged himself in a nearby tea estate. Further investigations are being conducted by the Gampola Police.
