SJB MP Chaminda Wijesiri sentenced to 18 months in prison

Colombo, July 28 (Daily Mirror) - Badulla District MP Chaminda Wijesiri has been sentenced to one-and-a-half years' imprisonment after being convicted by the Badulla High Court over a 2019 incident involving police officers.

The High Court found Wijesiri guilty of wrongful restraint, assault causing bodily harm, and criminal intimidation of police officers during an altercation near the Bandarawela roundabout.

The prosecution said the incident occurred in 2019 after a police jeep overtook the MP's vehicle, triggering an argument that escalated into the assault and intimidation of police officers.
