Cabinet approves proposal to extend judges’ retirement age by two years

Colombo, July 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet has approved a controversial proposal to extend the retirement age of judges by two years.

The proposal has drawn opposition from senior members of the legal fraternity, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) and opposition political parties.

The proposal will now be presented to Parliament for approval.

Since the proposed change requires an amendment to the Constitution, it must secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
