Colombo, October 1 (Daily Mirror) - SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa said the government should conduct an impartial and comprehensive investigation into the death of former rugby player Wasim Thajudeen without trying to make it a political slogan for its ends and otherwise, it would be an insult to his departed soul.
His remarks follow recent police revelations that an organized crime figure named ‘Kajja’, murdered earlier this year in Middeniya, had been in a vehicle that pursued Thajudeen prior to his death in 2012.
Speaking to the media, MP Rajapaksa compared the current focus on Thajudeen’s death to past politically charged events such as the ‘ICE week’ and ‘Ranil Week,’ suggesting that some are using it for personal political gain.
However, he said all relevant details of the case must be thoroughly examined.
Commenting on the recent identification of a person called ‘Kajja’, Namal said the authorities should determine the individual’s residence, associates, and movements.
“Without creating a political spectacle, the authorities must investigate whether Thajudeen faced any injustice. Failing to do so would itself be an injustice to his memory,” he added.
