Parliament, May 09 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa must take full responsibility over the issues faced by the country, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said today that if Premadasa had taken up the premiership on April 10, there would have been no issues.
The President said this when Sajith Premadasa requested some clarifications from the President over his special statement in Parliament today.
"I think we better have a debate in Parliament over these matters. There are various opinions. I must tell the Opposition Leader, he should take the full responsibility for all these issues. If he had taken up the premiership on April 10, none of these issues would have cropped up. I performed to my capacity," the President said.

A classic case of fools rushing in, either to boost their egso or otherwise, where angels fear to tread. Sajith had the common sense not to accept the leadership of a nation that was on its knees due to gross mismanagement by successive governments. Only a fool rushed in and the country is paying for this ever since. Merely taking over the reins by Sajith at that last stage would not have solved any issues.

It was a classic case of "when the going get tough, the tough get going". If everyone sat back and admired the problem (like what SP and AKD did), the country would have drifted very soon into anarchy. This is what some elements wanted, because their political persuasions thrive on it. "Do nothing" was not an option in the wider interest of the country and its people, although it would have suited perfectly for those solely seeking to wrest power through social calamities.

Reminder for those whose memory has issues! SP and AKD didn’t want to join the SLPP morons who were still hanging on shamelessly even after their Gota got booted out. They wanted fresh elections so that they get the mandate to proceed with the recovery process on their terms. They had highlighted many months b4 that the economy will crash big time and had prepared an action plan. They knew joining SLPP will have repercussions currently being experienced by Ranil. They wanted a fresh slate from the public to implement policies without SLPP. Read back all previous comments and news platforms from 2021 to 2022 if you and those happy with the current situation can comprehend.

AKD and his party was also responsible for the economic destruction for decades. Their cadres never worked on their government jobs performed all disruptive activities, destroyed higher education, protested all kinds of development work, killed or got killed so many youngsters, etc etc. Then those who robbed the country Rajas and the rest. But Rajas did a lot of development work, while others like Ranil ,Sira just robbed. AKD destroyed, so it is same result at the end.

Sajith did not get a mandate as Ranil, to be the Prime Minister. That was why they requested to dissolve the parliament after 2.5 years (in February, 2023) which Ranil did not do as the UNP won't get a mandate. Ranil admits that Sajith as a capable person unlike him.

This is a false political argument Ranil and Pohottuwa plus Maharajas raise against Sajith. After Gota's miserable faliure, Pohottuwa and Maharajas played the musical hat show and when the hat was on Ranil's head, they muted music choosing him as president and closed the show after a single round.
