Colombo, February 8 (Daily Mirror) -The first shipment of vehicles will arrive between February 25 and 27 following the relaxation of import restrictions on February 2, president of the Vehicle Importers' Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL) Prasad Manage said.
Speaking to the media, Manage said that importers have successfully opened new Letters of Credit (LCs) for all categories of vehicles.
The second and third shipments are expected to arrive by March, covering all vehicle categories. He assured consumers that there is no need to panic, as this marks the beginning of a long-term import process.
Manage noted that vehicles will be available starting from Rs. 6 million.
"Suzuki Japan Alto and Suzuki Wagon R FX models will be priced between Rs. 6 million and Rs. 6.5 million. The Toyota Yaris will be available from Rs. 6.5 million onwards. The Toyota Vitz has been discontinued by the manufacturer and will be replaced by the Toyota Yaris," he explained.
He also confirmed that European vehicles will be available for purchase as well.
"There is no need to queue for new vehicles. All models will be available in our showrooms by mid-March. Customers can visit, inspect and purchase vehicles at their convenience," Manage added.
Following the arrival of new stocks, the prices of second-hand vehicles are expected to decrease by up to 25% from their current market rates, he further said.
