Colombo, Jan 09 (Daily Mirror) - Major General K.A.N. Rasika Kumara of the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) assumed office as the new Director General of the Directorate of Media and Psychological Operations and Army Spokesman at the Army Headquarters this morning (09 Jan) during a brief formal ceremony.
He succeeded Major General I.H.M.R.K. Herath, who has now been appointed as the Chief Signal Officer and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps.
Born in Theldeniya, Major General Kumara is a proud product of Ruwanwella Rajasinghe Central College. He was enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army in 1990 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1991 at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA).
He underwent various courses, including the Platoon Commander’s Course, Officers’ Par Excellence Course, Unit Intelligence Officer Course, Field Engineer Class III Course, Unit Account Course, Unit Administration Officers’ Course, Army Command and Staff Course, National Defence College Course (National Security and Strategic Studies), Young Officers’ Course - India, Combat Engineer Instructor Course - India, Army Command and Staff Course - China, and Mine and Blasting Engineer Course - China.
Throughout his career, Major General K.A.N. Rasika Kumara, ndc psc, has held various key appointments, demonstrating a diverse range of roles, including Troops Commander, Intelligence Officer, Adjutant, General Staff Officer III of Engineers Brigade, Aide De Camp, Officer Commanding, Staff Officer III of Regimental Headquarters, Sri Lanka Engineers, General Staff Officer II of Security Forces - Jaffna, Brigade Major of 511 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officer I of Chief of Staff Office, Army Headquarters, Staff Officer I of Military Secretariat Branch, Commanding Officer of 5 SLE and 6 SLE, General Staff Officer I of Directorate of Operations at Army Headquarters, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) of Security Forces - Wanni, Colonel General Staff of 22 Infantry Division, Colonel Training of Directorate of Training, Military Assistant of Army Headquarters, Commander of 213 Infantry Brigade, Director of Directorate of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, and Director of Overseas Operations.
The simple ceremony was attended by Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of the Directorate of Media and Psychological Operations.
