Negombo Prison unrest: Death toll climbs to 27

Colombo, July 7 (Daily Mirror) - The death toll from the violent unrest at the Negombo Prison has risen to 27 after another inmate who was injured in the clashes died while undergoing treatment at the Negombo Hospital, Police said today.

The latest victim was among several inmates admitted to the hospital following the violence that erupted at the prison.

According to the police, the death toll now comprises seven prison officers and 20 inmates. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
