Navy joins dengue prevention drive for third consecutive day

Colombo, July 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Navy has continued its support for the national dengue prevention campaign for the third consecutive day, joining efforts to strengthen the "Towards a Dengue-Free Colombo" initiative.

More than 50 naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command took part in the campaign today alongside Medical Officers of Health, Public Health Inspectors, Divisional Secretariat officials and members of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The joint teams carried out inspections at 52 locations, including the areas surrounding Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Narahenpita, Wattala, Mutwal, Mattakkuliya, Borella, Pita Kotte and Panadura.

During the inspections, officials identified and eliminated 1,231 potential mosquito breeding sites. They also conducted 73 public awareness programmes to educate residents on dengue prevention measures.

The Navy said similar dengue control programmes are being carried out simultaneously by all Naval Commands across the country. These include environmental inspections to destroy mosquito breeding sites and internal cleanliness campaigns to ensure naval bases remain dengue-free.
