Global Finance magazine has released the names of Central Bank Governors who earned A+, A, or A- grades as part of the Central Banker Report Cards 2023 where Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has been listed under A- grade.
The Bank Governors who earned an "A-" grade are: Colombia Leonardo Villar, Dominican Republic Hector Valdez Albizu, Iceland Asgeir Jonsson, Indonesia Perry Warjiyo, Mexico Victoria Rodriguez Ceja, Morocco Abdellatif Jouahri, Norway Ida Wolden Bache, South Africa Lesetja Kganyago, South Korea Rhee Changyong and Sri Lanka Nandalal Weerasinghe.
The full Central Banker Report Cards 2023 report and grade list will appear in Global Finance's October issue print and digital editions as well as online at GFMag.com.
The Central Banker Report Cards, published annually by Global Finance since 1994, grade the central bank governors of 101 key countries, territories and districts, including the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of West African States.
Grades are based on a scale from A to F for success in inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability and interest rate management. (An "A" represents an excellent performance down through an "F" for outright failure.)
"Fighting inflation, which has been fueled by pent-up demand and disrupted supply chains, has everyone turning to their central bankers for help," said Global Finance founder and editorial director Joseph Giarraputo. "Global Finance's annual Central Banker Report Cards celebrate those bank governors whose strategies outperformed their peers through orgininality, creativity and tenacity."
The Bank Governors who earned an "An" grade in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023 are: India Shri Shaktikanta Das, Switzerland Thomas J. Jordan and Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong.
The Bank Governors who earned an "A" grade are: Brazil Roberto Campos Neto, Israel Amir Yaron, Mauritius Harvesh Kumar Seegolam, New Zealand Adrian Orr, Paraguay Jose Cantero Sienna, Peru Julio Velarde, Taiwan Chin-Long Yang, Uruguay Diego Labat.

Who is the 'HACKNEY', who resorted to such “Malady of utilising people's savings” – EPF/ETF!!?? The country was RUN DOWN economically by Dearest Messiah of 6.9 million SB's, which reached its Climax in March 2022 by rotten ‘TEAM MaRa’, Cabral and PBJ – BANKRUPTCY!!!??? Now you’re are accusing NW who was not even listened to, pre March 2022, retired prematurely in disgust of the treatment meted out by those ‘Wielding Power’!!! SL has abysmal memory LOSS

Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe deserves to be the President of our country atleast until 2027. Unfortunately for the country but fortunately for him, cbsl governors must stay away from politics. Hope the 29 National List seats are filled by technocrats industrialists and technologists etc so that parliament and hopefully cabinette will have more competences to run the country properly. Since he won't contest, the party that wins the elections should invite Dr. NW to come as an independent from the National List and then appoint him the finance minister. On His part he should plan and groom his successor for CBSL Governor post and take on a more National level post like Finance Minister to strengthen the fiscal side policies and regulations as well from 2024.

Please accept my heartiest CONGRATULATIONS, Governor Dr Nandalal. Truly, your hard work only pulled out our country from the crisis. But RW may claim his hard work. RW brought a robber Arjuna Mahendran and destroyed our country. I take this opportunity THANK Fmr President GR for bringing you to this position. BUDU SARANAI

He deserves credit. Undoubtedly the best Central Bank governor since AS Jayawardene. Tough and disciplined.

Let’s not forget; members of this cabinet tried to get rid of Mr Weerasinghe. Now they should get down on their bended knees and thank him. It amply demonstrates what can be achieved when suitably qualified people are appointed. Sri Lankan airlines under Mr Nuttall will be the next success story ( providing that imbecile of a minister is got rid of).

Do you know that there was a finance minister in Sri Lanka once upon a time ( Mr. Ravi Karunanayake ) that he was listed as the number one finance minister in world by a magazine like this and later he was jailed for corruption charges by a court in Sri Lanka? Few years later the same country declared its bankruptcy.

I think he should be out of the list as his monitory policy decisions has already done huge damage to the country’s economy. GDP growth of Q1 2023 is dropped to -11.3 after last year -9.3. Because of his decision to increase landing rates by 750 basis points in one day, construction industry alone one million jobless. Textile industry export contracts nearly 20%. None performing loan in bank increased to 14% from 8.3%. Treasury Bonds / Bills rates are at historical high ( Above 30% ). He made the decision to rob the hard working peoples’ pension fund by reducing its return to 9% from 12% while not touching Central Bank Employees fund but giving them 30% return. The Unethical Chief Of Money Printing Agency should be in jailed now. The Economist who cheat the people who doesn’t know the economics.

Congratulations! Better luck next time to obtain an A by being considerate to the EPF and ETF funds of employees in the private sector and also in the interest management by giving weightage to deposit holders who are dependent on the interest on their terminal benefits.

What Nandalal did Best was as Deputy Governor kept a blind eye when Mahendran committed the skulduggery !! To avoid the scrutiny Nanda moved Aussieland then the opportunity arise to make a fast Buck Nanda came back to SL. Now tell me who leaves Australia to become a Bureaucrat in SL unless that Job provides perks beyond any means, Huh.

Dumb and avaricious rulers will not allow this bank Governor to utilize his knowledge and acumen to take the nation forward. The famous Kulasinghe of State Engineering Corporation had to leave, because he was not in the good books of the ruler and minister of Lanka.

Even Ravi Karunanayake too was top Finance Minister but he mistakenly entered into Crescate Apartment without knowing who was the owner of the Apartment. Finally, it was found that EPF has lost a lot.

He maybe lauded by those overseas but here he causes suffering Sunday, 03 September 2023 10:59 AM
His speaking up for capping interest earning on EPF, stopping imports to save dollars, preventing rupee outward remittances have made him hated by the public. He can have his ivory tower white skinned friends all say he is good, but the public would hate him and never vote him into that role in a million years. Regardless of what rubbish the western nations say about how good he is, the suffering he's inflicted on the public is unforgivable. Sooner or later all those who cause misery to our nations public will face unexpected suffering, as much traditional Kali amma pooja is being held against him.

The report published by UNDP on the economic crisis for 22/23 on Sri Lanka says it all. Either Global Finance or the UNDP do not know what they are doing or saying. Poverty is rampant the report says the country CLAIMS to be recovering. So, what's the justification, for this'

'....for success in inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability and interest rate management'. None of these are even within spitting distance in Sri Lanka. So how does the Global Finance magazine arrive at such bizarre deductions?

Whilst you are full of smiles in obtaining recognition of an A- as Governor of the Central Bank still you have not understood the burning problems of the Private sector employees who have been fleeced of their future interest on EPF and ETF funds and RETIRED Old Daddies and Mummies who have to forego substantial reductions on their deposits for their livelihoods thus getting a "F" OUTRIGHT FAILURE RECOGNITION

He took the job while the whole country's economy was going down the hill and managed to reduce the inflation up to around 4% by August, which is a remarkable achievement. While going through these ignorant comments, the illustration of stupidity and almost no percent of humility among the majority of Sri Lankans is thoroughly noticeable. Good Job, Dr. Nandalal!
