Colombo, July 7 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition MPs Namal Rajapaksa, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Anuradha Jayaratne, D. V. Chanaka and Chanaka Madugoda on Tuesday launched a new political platform titled “A Team – Next Wave”, saying it aims to unite opposition voices both inside and outside Parliament.
The MPs said the platform seeks to provide representation for political parties, independent groups and individuals who are not adequately represented in Parliament due to the government’s overwhelming majority.
They said the initiative would work with opposition MPs, political groups and other stakeholders without parliamentary representation to raise public concerns on national issues.
The MPs added that the platform is expected to bring together representatives from various opposition parties and independent groups to build a broader political alliance.
They said the country currently needs an experienced political team capable of addressing challenges faced by the public, including economic hardships, the tax burden, and issues affecting farmers, fishermen, graduates, youth and students.
The MPs said the long-term objective of the initiative is to build a united opposition force that could eventually become what they described as Sri Lanka’s “next national team.”
