A mother of three who had been stranded in Kuwait after her prospective employer had refused to provide her employment, returned to the country today much to the relief of her children who had been left to the mercy of the jungle without any protection.

The Daily Mirror highlighted the predicament of the three children who requested the authorities to facilitate the return of their mother from Kuwait.

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau had taken immediate steps within 24 hours to make arrangements for her to reunite with her children.

The disappointed expatriate worker, Wasana Fernando said she had been left in a room of the employment agency for more than a month when the prospective employer had refused to provide her employment. She said she went abroad leaving her three children in the care of her mother but she had died of cancer.

Her 15-year-old son is the eldest in the family and her daughter seven years old. The youngest was a five-year-old boy. They had been living in a dilapidated wattle and daub hut amidst the thick jungle.

Minister Manusha Nanayakkara who paid prompt attention to their request had made arrangements through the Sri Lankan Embassy and the Foreign Employment Bureau for her to return to the country.

Wasana expressed her gratitude to the media that highlighted her predicament and for drawing the attention of the authorities. (Kanchana Kumara)

Appreciate the Daily Mirror, Hon. Manusha Nanayakkara and FEB for the coordination, to bring back the stranded mother to unite with the family of the three innocent, minors living in a mud house, midst of a jungle. Well wishers, please provide a house and employment to the mother.

Why is it our powerful most superior 2500 year old civilisation sending our women to work as maids overseas when a country like Vietnam is able to attract immense overseas investment and is becoming a technological manufacturing area. Australia, US and Chinese presidents all visiting or visited Vietnam recently. We must send delegations of our fearsome powerful intimidating monks overseas to use their skills at threatening to threaten these world leaders to invest in our superior foremost blessed paradise

What a wonderful result. And full marks to the government and the Daily Mirror for reporting this family's unfortunate situation and to all the beautiful people who offered their assistance to this family. It would be great if this vigilance and investigation into other families' similar plights are reported so that they too can receive the assistance and care of the government bodies as well. Well done, Daily Mirror!

Let's give credit to a politician when they do the right thing, despite people may not like politicians generally. The reason is that they do not do the right thing. In this instance, appreciate good deeds when it is done. Well done Minister and all involved!

@ Punchi! We have 2500 years colourful tradition and 75 years old worn out begging bowls. The begging bowls. It is up to the voters wether to keep the beginning bowls or dispose them at the next Presidential election.
