More Indian troops arrive in Sri Lanka to assist flood relief effort

The Indian Army has deployed a specialized contingent to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu to assist communities affected by severe flooding caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

The contingent includes medical, engineering, and signals units equipped to provide immediate and sustained relief. The medical team features Advanced Dressing Stations (ADS) and Mobile Surgical Teams (MST), with operating theatres capable of conducting major and minor surgeries and facilities to accommodate 20–30 patients at a time. Engineering personnel are supporting the restoration of essential services and infrastructure, while the signals team ensures uninterrupted communication for ongoing relief efforts.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed India’s continued support on Tuesday, stating that an Indian Air Force C-17 transport aircraft carrying medical teams, equipment, and a modular field hospital had arrived in Colombo. “India continues to assist Sri Lanka in its flood relief operations,” he said in a post on X.

According to the Indian High Commission in Colombo, India has deployed two rapidly deployable field hospitals and around 70 personnel to provide medical support in affected areas as rescue and relief operations intensify.
