Missing repeater firearm recovered at Negombo Prison

Colombo, July 10 (Daily Mirror) - The repeater firearm that went missing following the recent clash at Negombo Prison has been recovered, the Department of Prisons said.

The department said the firearm was found within the prison premises after an extensive search.

The weapon had gone missing following the clash at the prison on July 6.

Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons said steps will be taken in the coming days to accommodate inmates at the Old Bogambara Prison premises in Kandy.

An Extraordinary Gazette Notification has been issued to establish a new prison at the historic site as part of efforts to ease congestion in the prison system.
