Colombo, Feb 22 (Daily Mirror) - In light of recent findings suggesting potential rare occurrences of heart, brain, and blood disorders linked to certain Covid-19 vaccines, medical professionals in Sri Lanka urge the health authorities to remain vigilant on the development.
The study in question, conducted by researchers from the Global Vaccine Data Network, a research arm of the World Health Organization (WHO), unearthed Covid vaccines from companies like Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca were linked to rare occurrences of heart, brain and blood disorders.
It targeted population of 99 million vaccinated individuals across eight countries. This study is said to be the largest Covid vaccine study to date.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) Media Spokesman Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said it is better that Sri Lank goes on alert given the gravity of the findings of the study.
“It’s imperative that Sri Lanka maintains continued vigilance and observation of any potential side effects associated with Covid vaccines within the local context,” he stated.
“However, the findings of the study can’t be directly applied to Sri Lanka since the data on which the study was done distinguish from the Sri Lankan context. Furthermore, the factors like genetic patterns and related patterns also play a significant role,” he pointed out.
“Nevertheless, the Health Ministry should closely monitor the situation while pondering over the necessity to conduct a local survey,” Dr.Wijesinghe added.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Health Ministry has affirmed that no proven study has been conducted in the country regarding the side effects of Covid vaccines.
However, the ministry asserts its commitment to monitoring the situation closely.

Why was Sri Lanka's medical community sleeping all this time. I spoke a few months back to many doctors in Sri Lanka about the impact of vaccines and they were clueless as deaths and side effects were not fully investigated. They say if a cardiac arrest causes death, death certificate simply says it and no investigation takes place. Sorry state of affairs in Sri Lanka.

At the time of the crisis, vaccination was the only solution. It controlled the spreading of the virus further no matter who says what. Everything we consume nowadays are poisonous. So does the air we breathen in. Whether we administrated the vaccine or not, you are going to die early not because of the side effects of it, but the things you eat.

It's too late now, and it's your own fault because these Sri Lankan people trust and worship European colonizers. Don't they understand that European history is full of genocide? Even today, these Europeans are responsible for more than 84% of the wars that are going on in this world. After World War II, these Europeans bombed more than 22 countries and killed more than 30 million innocent people. Why would you Sri Lankan people trust a vaccine made by such a genocidal race? There were thousands of doctors worldwide who warned people not to take Pfizer. Sri Lanka should stop trusting these Europeans because they are colonizers and have no good intentions toward humanity. The Pfizer vaccine has killed many innocent people. Traitors in Sri Lanka who worked for the US government's interests should be punished.

Entire world came to a standstill with the pandemic. What pulled us out of the morass was the vaccine. People were dying at such a rate that coffins and burial spaces were in short supply in some countries. That has stopped now and its business as usual. I suppose any medicine will have side effects on some people. I think we should stop being luddites. Of course, the scientists have to fine tune their new vaccine technology and monitor the vaccinated people to look for late side effects, if any. But that vaccine was our saviour.

This sadly shows how backward the GMOA is in terms of understanding data and basic principles of benefit risk assessment of a vaccine or medical therapeutic product. Any medicine has some side effects. They are approved only if the benefit outweighs the risks. Same with the covid vaccine. This article focus only on the side effects and does not provide the stats or the numbers behind the risks. These vaccines have swore millions of lives around the world. Yes deaths have occurred to due to the wide effects but these are vastly outweighed. Remember the days when thousands died every day in some countries. What stopped that pattern? Four rounds of vaccines mainly. Every vaccine has side effects but we don’t see them that often because of the relatively small number of people who have them. Give millions and perhaps billions people all over the world took these vaccines we see more people with these side effects. All these side effects were known about these vaccines and flu vaccines.
