Colombo, Sept. 26 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama today (26) issued notice to the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), directing him to appear before court on October 03 and present submissions regarding the bail application filed on behalf of former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara.
The notice was issued after considering a motion filed by Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, naming the Director General of CIABOC and the Head of the Investigations Division as respondents, seeking anticipatory bail.
The petition requested that anticipatory bail be granted in the event of his arrest in connection with an ongoing investigation concerning the deployment of Sri Lankan workers for employment in Israel’s agricultural sector.
President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, informed the court that when Nanayakkara arrived in Sri Lanka on September 24 from Dubai, officials of the CIABOC served him with a letter at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, directing him to appear before the Commission regarding allegations of bribery and corruption.
Counsel further submitted that the petitioner had already provided written submissions to CIABOC regarding the investigation and therefore sought an anticipatory bail order to ensure his release on bail in the event of arrest.
