Former Sri Lanka cricketer Lasith Malinga has backed Dasun Shanaka to continue as ODI skipper even as deliberations are ongoing if the all-rounder should retain the captaincy for the Cricket World Cup.
"Dasun Shanaka took on the responsibility of captaining the Sri Lanka cricket team during a difficult period for the players and fans, managing to bring stability and respectability to the national side with his calm and collected approach," Malinga shared through his social media channels.
"With an impressive captaincy record, including the Asia Cup and a record ODI winning streak under his belt regardless of the opposition, everyone, including myself, expected him to be the captain of SL for the CWC 2023. Having a new captain going into such an important tournament definitely won’t help the team. I hope the stakeholders take all of this into consideration before making a decision. I back Dassa & the team to have a successful WC campaign."

How can you be a good team, when you disgraced SriLanka in front of the cricket fans all over the world? My golden advice is for you to refrain from the world Cup, competition, SriLankan fans will not watch SriLanka playing with any team.. You were heroes then, now a zero . Don't waste everyone's money and time. I enjoy, boys playing cricket down the lane.

WE ALL WERE MAD LOOSING THE MATCH IS OK BUT IN A DECENT WAY, AND ALL SHOULD TAKE THE BLAME SPECIALLY THE FIRST SEVEN. AGREE WITH MALINGA AND LET'S FORGET WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND GIVE ALL THE MOTIVATION TO THE TEAM TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS FOR THE WORLD CUP.

Malinga is right!! It's too late let him captain his last world cup! If he wants to prove him self let's give him a last chance !

For sure a reasonable suggestions Mali. However, he should work day and night to get his form back in any one area. His bowling and batting both are taking a hit at tge moment. It is a huge event. He can't afford to be a passenger only. Plus it gives other players also to slack off if he's not doing his part, as we have seen in the performance of Asia cup finals.

History in Cricket is repeating itself where Captain Cool Arjuna backed to the tilt Muttiah Muralitharan but in different circumstances and now Dasun Shanaka is being backed by Malinga to the tilt as Malinga knows the last episode was a bad patch for the Captain with very many injuries and confident he will deliver the expected results

I think it will be the wise decision. Even Kohli had a bad run, but the Indian selectors persisted with him and the results are obvious.

Everyday is not a Sunday. We all go through bad patches. Dasun is a good captain despite his failure with the bat. Just be patient! Who knows he may go great guns from the word go in the World Cup.

I back Dasun too
