With the celebration of one year after the opening of the Lotus Tower, a total of 1,172,936 locals and 28,568 foreigners have visited the tower during the past year, Lotus Tower Head of Management Prasad Samarasinghe said.
He told the Daily Mirror that the revenue earned through the visitors to the tower was more than Rs. 550 million, and the Lotus Tower management was able to pay Rs. 100 million for the initial lease payment for the loan obtained by the TRCSL.
"We have developed most of the areas, such as the kids' areas, open-air theatres and innovative centres, to earn more revenue and offer the people different types of experiences. We have ordered equipment unique to the children's play areas that cannot be found anywhere in the country. The digital art museum that we ordered will be functional by the end of this year. The revolving restaurant will be open to the public by November," he said.
With all the arrangements, the Lotus Tower management is planning to reach Rs. 1,000 million in revenue by the end of next year.
"When considering the expenses, we currently spend about Rs. 1 million for maintenance and management. Next year, we are going for a solar power system while reducing the costs.
"At the moment, the Lotus Tower management has not taken any decisions to increase the ticket prices, which are Rs. 500 for adults, Rs. 200 for children and 20 USD for foreigners and 10 USD for their children. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

The Lotus Tower resembles Chinese architecture signifying Sri Lanka is now a part of China. As a tourist I want to know when did Sri Lanka become a Chinese colony as there are many towers like this all over China?

Why isn't some of that money spent to keep that disgusting Beira Lake clean? It is putrid. The colour, the stench, the stagnant nature of the water itself is so off putting. It's no wonder you don't see any pond life or aviary activity on that Lake.

The comments here are bizarre. The article says that the Tower is earning great revenue. And yet, all the comments are about what a waste this is! I am not saying that our politicians are smart or that they do not build white elephants all the time. But people should have the ability to make rational comments based on the article content. This inability in my view is the biggest problem SL has. Our people are entirely biased. They are incapable of rational, coherent debate. And that translates into their actions during elections too.

Elsewhere they talk about how the new Lotus Tower can offer the people of SL more entertainment and experiences!!! This is about the income that the tower should generate! There are far more important things to do than looking at this tower!!!I have been in the country for a few days and I see and experience first hand the misery and suffering of the people and the cost of living, which has risen astronomically for Sri Lankan standards! I have known this wonderful Sri Lanka for forty years in almost all areas that this country has to offer! I buy my groceries every day and see prices that are sometimes higher than the prices in Germany! How is an average family supposed to live with an unchanged low salary! What does the world of the poor and the poorest look like!!! What has harmful and criminal politics done here over the years, mainly by the Rajapaksas family clan!!!
