COlombo, December 1 (Daily Mirror) - At least one access road has been opened to landslide-affected towns, the Road Development Authority (RDA) Director General, Eng. K.W. Kandamby said.
Speaking to the media, he said roads to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya had recently been cleared, though the blocks have not been fully removed. Only one lane is currently open due to the risk of collapsing earth mounds.
The Nuwara Eliya route passes through Avisawella, Kithulgala, Ginigathhena, and Hatton. Motorists can reach Kandy via the expressway to Kurunegala, and through the Galagedara and Katugastota routes.
Eng. Kandamby urged the public to use the roads only if absolutely necessary, warning that heavy traffic could disrupt ongoing repair and stabilization work along the affected stretches.
