Colombo, July 10 (Daily Mirror) - The railway crossing on the Kelani Valley line at Baseline Road in Borella will be closed for 22 hours from Saturday morning to facilitate repair work, with police warning of traffic congestion and advising motorists to use alternative routes.
According to the Police, the railway crossing will be closed from 9.30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, until 7.30 a.m. on Sunday, July 12.
The Traffic Headquarters has warned that the closure is likely to cause heavy traffic congestion in the area and has advised motorists to use alternative routes when entering and leaving Colombo.
Vehicles travelling from the Horton Roundabout can proceed via Castle Street, turn left at the Thimbirigasyaya (Tickell) Road Junction, continue along Cotta Road and turn right at the Ayurveda Junction.
Motorists travelling from Bauddhaloka Mawatha towards the Ayurveda Junction via Old Bauddhaloka Mawatha and the Model Farm Junction have been advised to travel via the Kanatte Roundabout, continue along Baseline Road through the D.S. Senanayake Junction to the Borella Junction, and then turn right onto Cotta Road to reach the Ayurveda Junction.
Meanwhile, separate diversions have been introduced for vehicles travelling from the Ayurveda Junction towards the Model Farm Junction. Light vehicles from Rajagiriya can use Cotta Road and turn left near the Cotta Road railway crossing to reach the Model Farm Junction before continuing towards the D.S. Senanayake Junction or the Kanatte Roundabout.
Heavy and dual-purpose vehicles travelling from Rajagiriya have been advised to continue along Cotta Road to the Borella Junction and then turn left towards the D.S. Senanayake Junction and the Kanatte Roundabout.
