Increased allowances for police officers from next week

Colombo, Feb 10 (Daily Mirror) -The food, travel and accommodation allowance for police personnel which were increased by the 2024 budget will be paid at the beginning of next week, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

In addition to the allowances received so far, half of the allowance increased by the budget will be paid immediately, the minister said.

The allowance of Rs. 17,000 for junior officers is to be increased by Rs. 11,800, and 50% of this is to be paid immediately, the minister further said.

If this police are doing a good job to protect public roads criminals and other Activities accordingly then its fine the real question is majority young police officer on roads are not doing the job they are on the phone or busy talking don't help pedestrian to cross my lavinia junction cleric excample always busy doing own things trafic lights not functioning over one month other is hotel road mt lavinia just standing doing absulatly nothing then you give this fellows more money its a joke you must give benifits and pay rise to people who deserve not to lazy fellows...top cats must look in to this fellows and replace

I agree, Police should be paid a better salary. It s easy to condemn and underestimate somebody' s duty because a majority of critical people are just talkative useless prats. We should have respect towards Police. As a doctor I personally comply with the rules and also respect the police for the heavy duty they are on

Why is this, despite the absolutely poor service they deliver to citizens? These policemen are just State thugs for use by Politicians and are of no use to general public. Go down Galle Road and see the incompetent way traffic is handled. It takes minimum 2h for a policemen to arrive at incident after a call.

Why? When they already receive free meals and accommodation as part of their pay package? These are tough times for the everyday citizen too and yet there is no financial relief for them. We need to get our priorities in order. This is not right.
