Import duty on dates to be reduced in view of Ramadan



Colombo, March 1 (Daily Mirror) - The special commodity tax on dates imported on the occasion of Ramadan will be reduced in the next two days, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

He said the special merchandise tax of Rs. 200, which is currently charged for a kilogram in the importing country, will be reduced to one rupee.

The Minister further said that the permission of the Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary should be obtained to get this relief.
