Colombo, April 08 (Daily Mirror) - The Castle Street Hospital for Women in Colombo has initiated a new programme permitting fathers to be present in the delivery room during childbirth.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Dr. Ajith Danthanarayana, the Director of the hospital, said that this initiative marks a significant milestone as the first government hospital to implement such a programme.
Dr. Danthanarayana emphasized that separate rooms have been specifically prepared for each mother within the maternity ward.
He highlighted the programme's potential to enhance the birthing experience for women, enabling them to deliver their child in a conducive environment.

Castle Street Hospital used to be a horrible place for expectant mothers. Not sure if anything has changed now. But women I know who went there to have babies said they were mocked, verbally abused and shamed by nurses when they shout in pain during contractions.
