Colombo, Jan 6 (Daily Mirror) - One person died and four others were injured in an accident when a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus tried to overtake a van in the Tittawelkada area of the Colombo-Kandy main road and collided head-on with three other vans, police said.

A 58-year-old resident of the Gampola-Mariawatta area, who was the driver of a van, died in this accident.

The four men who were travelling in the van were seriously injured and admitted to the Warakapola Hospital. One was transferred to the National Hospital in Colombo, the police said.

They said a Romanian national was also among the injured.

The driver of the bus is undergoing treatment at the Wathupitiwala Hospital under police protection.

this stupidity happens on a daily basis, bus owners and drivers are so powerful even the government or police cannot do anything yet for so many years regarding these immature drivers, just once in a while do random bus checks for the media show, earn some side money, even the police on kandy colombo road are old policeman same duty for many years, always ready to accept money and tiny bottles given by bus drivers...only those who travel in bus on this route will know

Is it over-confidence, or callous attitude for others, or hallucination due to drug use? It is time traffic cops educate drivers on "Defensive Driving" to bring down road rage. They do it in Saudi ARAMCO. i.e. "The other driver does not know how to drive, so let me be careful." Every life is precious is the first principle to learn.

No one can stop this idiots. This crazy bus drivers are a real problem in Roads they don't respect or have fear of accidents or killing inocenent road users government should have a plan to crackdown this fellows at least to keep all roads safe from this terrible fellows bus drivers and threewheel drivers are the majority that drive like monkeys creating accidents and making other drivers panic its about time to fix this issue urgently.....

There are many videos in the social media showing rash driving of both private and CTB buses. Some passengers derive a cheap thrill from the irresponsible behaviour of these drivers and encourage them with it. As nobody cares, the nonsense continues with the loss of innocent lives.

Sri Lanka bus drivers are dangerous and incompetent. They should be forced to take an international standard PSV licence. Any report of bad driving whether in a public or private capacity immediately results in the loss of the vocational licence and an extended retest.

Road safty operation task force must be introduced get the experience matured committee with no nonsense to crackdown all dangerous drivers if anyone commite any risk to others by not driving with basic common sense should be given a spot fine accordingly no ifs no buts dangerous drivers should be taken off the road with cancellation of license prove your innocents in courts this will fix all nonsense crazy dangerous behaviour with all drivers and riders ..drivers have no respect for the liecence that give huge benifits for all drivers if they dont respect then take the liecence back.....punish heavily for those dont deserve. .....

If we have tough policing system to protect all Road users will make a difference majority young police officers are on roads are to busy with phone's or chatting all road traffic police must be given targets to spot fine dangerous drivers and riders police must be given strict instructions fine all if any road rules been disregard by drivers and riders .speed limits should be in place in busy roads permanent basis if otherwise driving trough red lights heavy fines should be introduced drivers should be tought give Right away.....use signal to turn speed limits on rounderbots when driving in wet etc...dont let any crazy insane drivers take the roads ..give Room for emergency vheicles immidiatly specialy Ambulance.. If failed heavy penalties should apply
