Failure to prevent Easter Sunday attacks: Pujith and Hemasiri were released on previous bail conditions
Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara were today ordered to be released on previous bail conditions by Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar.
Two former high ranking public officials were summoned before the Trial-at-Bar bench comprising High Court Judges Namal Balalle, Adithya Patabendi and Mohomed Irshadeen in connection with their criminal negligence and failure to prevent Easter Sunday Terrorist attacks.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Pieris appearing for the Attorney General informed the court that the charges against the accused will be re-examined and a specific indictment will be filed on the next calling date.
Defence Counsel who appeared on behalf of the accused informed the court that they are expecting to raise objections against the indictments.
Two separate cases against former Defence Secretary and former IGP will be taken up against on August 27.
The Attorney General has filed indictments consist of 864 against two accused. The trial is to proceed without a jury.
The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
