Colombo, Jan 18 (Daily Mirror) - Former Parliamentarian Duminda Silva continues to undergo treatment at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital under prison security, following the suspension of the presidential pardon granted to him by the Supreme Court in 2022, the Prisons Department said.

Prisons Spokesman Gamini B Dissanayake said that the Prisons Department has informed the relevant authorities including the court that Duminda Silva is undergoing treatment at the Jayewardenepura Hospital.

He said the Department has requested Duminda Silva to be transferred to the Prisons Hospital. However, specialist doctor treating Duminda Silva had recommended that he should undergo treatment at that hospital despite the Department's request.

It was reported that the Prisons Department lack the specialist doctor to go beyond the recommendations of Duminda Silva's doctors.

In the wake of the Supreme Court suspending the presidential pardon granted to him, Duminda Silva was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) while he was receiving treatment at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital on June 1, 2022.

This guy doesn't deserve to draw breath!!

    Nimal Thursday, 18 January 2024 06:45 AM

Did the verdict of the Supreme Court make him so sick or was he sick already? Whatever it was, this heartless scoundrel will now spend most of his days in hospitals rather than in prisons, where he should spend the rest of his days.

Speedy Recovery if Sick Thursday, 18 January 2024 02:54 PM

If he’s really sick, a speedy recovery so that resources can be used on others. If the medical team is faking it, the viruses in the hospital will act accordingly too.

    Haren Thursday, 18 January 2024 07:33 AM

Seven plus months in hospital? Name the specialist doctors who are expressing this opinion. What is the specialist skills needed that cannot be provided by the prison doctors? We recall that it was from the SJH that he dramatically left to Singapore for treatment a few years back.

    Patient Thursday, 18 January 2024 08:11 AM

What kind of illness is this to be hospitalised for so.long for treatment?? As we all know, any other ordinary poor person, however serious the illness might be, would not be allowed in a hospital for this long!! Who is the "specialist" doctor treating him for this mysterious illness for so long????

    VJ Thursday, 18 January 2024 08:16 AM

Why not go for a second or third opinion? Before the pardon was challenged, he was fine, working at the housing authority. If the pardon is reinstated, he might get well?

    Sambo Thursday, 18 January 2024 08:20 AM

So what is suffering from to be that long warded in the hospital. Once they said a bullet has pierced his brain but later it was proved that he had no brain.

This is the normal practice when a politionsins to be arrested he may go and stay at a hospital. Let a team of doctors asses the person and send him back to jail. This should be done early.

National Child Protection Authority failed in there duty to protect the 16 year old in 2002, It almost beggars belief that anyone can be so cruel, hope he is put behind pegs where he belongs, trust the court will perform its duty to the full extent of the law.

Nalin, can you enlighten those of us who seemed to have missed this incident with regards to the 16-year-old girl?

Consultant political Strategist Thursday, 18 January 2024 09:54 AM

So, this is the drama, 1. Ranil cannot expect the fullest media support from Derana and Dilith. 2. It will be politically painful for Kudu Nalikawa (KN) to support any other except for Ranil as Duminda Silva is now in the grill. then, KN will have only two options, either support Ranil or be neutral. 3. Dilith is a Montessori child compared to Ranil. So, Ranil will have an edge over mainstream TV channels during the election campaign. 4. Ranil wins. Duminda will sooner or later will be out of the topic. 5. Ranil runs the country for the next four years. Duminda will continue in the business as usual. if anyone wants political advice please contact me.

    A small correction Thursday, 18 January 2024 01:50 PM

It might be helpful if you did not get Hiru and Derana confused. Other than that good comment.

Where had the Supreme Court been when he was pardoned by the then-president? It seems the Supreme Court is playing POLITICS now. So, people will never trust any supreme court verdict herein after, we believe.

    Mahila Friday, 19 January 2024 02:13 AM

SC is not CID, Police or Investigators, even then none complained or had the stamina to complain, because the Person granting the Pardon was the person adopted and helped elected as "Hitler", by the ‘SANCTIFIED TRIAD’ – Robed Moulana's!! None wanted to enter the 'PRODIGAL GAS CHAMBER'!!!???

This is all bull shit, it has been reveled some time how the doctors collude with powerful inmates who has money and political connection to get them in to prison hospital to stay comfortably rather than in the prison cell.

Can the Supreme Court ORDER a SECOND OPINION to establish why he has been in HOSPITAL for, what health issues is he being treated for and who are his treating doctors and/or specialists? Just asking, can he be receiving palliative care?
