Deshabandu Tennakoon remanded until August 27

Former Inspector General of Police—and previously DIG for the Western Province—Deshabandu Tennakoon was arrested by the CID in connection with the May 9, 2022 "Gota Go Gama" protest site attack. A Fort Magistrate has remanded him until August 27, requiring examination of police witnesses within a week and directing the CID to submit an evidence summary at the next hearing.
