Colombo, Dec.22 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Customs has the potential to exceed the expected revenue targets for this year and reach an income of Rs. 950 billion, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
While attending the opening ceremony of the Christmas carol concert organized by the Customs Department, the Minister pointed out that the Customs Department has already worked to exceed Rs. 940 billion.
Customs was given a target of Rs. 1,217 billion as revenue in 2023, which was later lowered to Rs. 894 billion due to factors including import restrictions.
While exceeding that target, the Customs Department has already managed to earn more than Rs. 100 billion.
Minister Siyambalapitiya pointed out that the officials who dedicate themselves to increasing the government's income are national heroes at this time when the country is in a severe economic crisis.

Well done. People must also thank the Govt. for the ongoing police operations to curb drugs and filling govt. coffers. This option is much better than paying extra vigilance and taxing traffic.

This is because of the higher value of Dollars and other currencies as duty charged on converted rupee value as percentage. If adjusted for FE conversion factor, unlikely increase.

Appreciate the effort of Customs Officers Saturday, 23 December 2023 09:28 AM
Increased tax will be only on the paper, if the customs officers do not levy the duty. This increase is , as a result of customs officers implementing what is written on the paper. This needs effort.

SL customs is one of the most corrupt. If corruption could be reduced, the income would be several fold.
