Court bars YouTuber ’Sudaa’ from defaming Diyawadana Nilame

Colombo, July 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order restraining YouTuber Sudantha Thilakasiri, also known as "Sudaa," and another individual from publishing defamatory statements or content against the Diyawadana Nilame of the Dalada Maligawa, Pradeep Nilanga Dela.

Colombo District Court Judge Sandun Vithana issued the order pursuant to a plaint filed by Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara. The order will remain in effect till July 30.

The court directed the enjoining order against two defendants, Sudantha Thilakasiri and Damith Nuwan Kodituwakku Arachchi, prohibiting them from publishing defamatory content targeting Pradeep Nilanga Dela on their YouTube channels.

Counsel Rasika Dissanayake, together with Asanka Dayanath and Cherag Nilgiriya, appeared for the plaintiff, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.

Thus Suda should not be barred but those being targeted by him should use online safety act to file defamation compensation claims against him. He lives in Australia so they could even inform authorities about the litigation against him. While it is absolutely fine to highlight issues with credible evidence or analyse the events critically, Sudda has been mostly creating highly insulting defamatory content.

I have seen a bit of some of these YouTube channels. They exist for views which convert to money for these people, regardless of what they say is truth or not. For anyone justifying it as freedom of speech, such freedoms do not give them the right to defame others or be malicious.

It's not only this utuber who should be barred from defaming people and it's not only the diyawadana nilame who has been defamed! There are several like this. It's indeed a pity that these third grade, good-for-nothing, jobless, uneducated and misleading buggers are allowed to continue their degrading u-tubing!

Diyawadana is a Radala type and should definitely be immune from any negative comments by low-caste people. In fact, all upper-class, wealthy people should be shielded by law from being challenged or accused of any wrongdoing. Based on this reasoning, please drop all charges against other high-class types accused of corruption etc.

Ranil Wickramasinghe wijedasa rajapakse together with a few solid govt officials did a lot of good to the country during 2022 to 2024. Some very important pieces of law including the OSB online safety bill was introduced during this era. The likes of Suda can be prosecuted using OSB. AkD will bring the new labour law drafted during RW era but yet not introduced. A good govt will do the right thing even if it means losing the next election. Mr Mahinda Siriwardane made this point about RW.

Yes, he sometimes utters some wrong words which are better not used. But , most or all of the people reading these comments and looking at his videos are adults, and he has been given a mild punishment for this by the Courts according to the law. What he says is invariably the truth and the correct situation in Sri lanka politics and happenings. If the politicians in Sri Lanka can throw chilli powder and bring out utter filth in front of school children in the Parliament gallery, I can't see much difference between the two !!
