Colombo, July 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has urged the public to remain vigilant against online scams that create a false sense of urgency to trick victims into sharing personal and financial information.
In a public awareness message issued under its "Be Scam Proof" campaign, the Central Bank warned that fraudsters often pressure people into acting without thinking by sending alarming messages such as, "Act now! Your account will be suspended in one hour."
The CBSL stressed that urgency is a major red flag in financial scams, as scammers rely on fear and panic to manipulate victims into making hasty decisions.
The Bank advised the public to pause and verify any unexpected messages or calls claiming that immediate action is required, particularly those relating to bank accounts, payments or personal information.
The awareness campaign forms part of the Central Bank's ongoing efforts to educate financial consumers and reduce the risk of cyber fraud and online financial scams.
