Colombo, Jan 4 (Daily Mirror) - A Sri Lankan man who was trying to smuggle in a stock of counterfeit cigarettes worth over Rs.2.7 million from Oman was nabbed by the police at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning.
Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officials stationed at the BIA Arrival Terminal searched a male passenger on suspicion and found 135 cartons and six packets containing 27,120 sticks of the ‘Manchester’ brand of cigarettes from three of his bags.
The 48-year-old passenger, identified to be a businessman from Piliyandala had arrived in the country on SalmanAir OV437 from Muscat.
The PNB has detained the suspect for further inquiries.
