Colombo, July 7 (Daily Mirror) - Twenty-nine people injured in the recent clash at Negombo Prison are currently receiving inpatient treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, with 12 of them being treated in intensive care units, the Health Ministry said.
According to the ministry, the patients include 15 prison officers and 14 inmates who sustained injuries during the incident.
Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa visited the National Hospital this afternoon to inquire about the condition of the injured officers and inmates.
During the visit, the Minister met patients receiving treatment in Wards 72 and 79 as well as those in the intensive care units. He also reviewed the medical care being provided and inquired into the measures required to ensure uninterrupted treatment.
Dr. Jayatissa held discussions with hospital administrators, doctors, nurses and prison officials on the progress of treatment, emergency requirements and other support needed for the patients.
The Health Ministry said the Minister's visit was aimed at assessing the condition of those injured and ensuring that all necessary medical care and facilities are provided.
