Colombo, June 11 (Daily Mirror) - An 11-year-old boy has died following a drowning incident at Galle Face on Wednesday evening (10), where six children were swept away by strong sea currents while bathing along the beachfront.
Police said members of the public, police officers and Sri Lanka Navy personnel joined rescue efforts and managed to save five of the children. Two were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, while three others were taken to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for treatment.
The deceased, a resident of Maligawatte, was among those rescued and admitted to the National Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, search operations are continuing for a 10-year-old boy from Maligawatte who remains missing after being carried away by the currents.
