This is not a war to use live bullets, certainly other methods could have been used. You don't use guns, even if poles were used. Very bad image for the defense. I am so sympathetic towards the mother of the victim. As i have mentioned in my previous comments, i repeat that it's the Innocents of this country who suffer a lot. At the rate things are happening, for certain "Boat People" will increase. Paradise Lost!
PRASANNAJIT Monday, 05 August 2013 10:49 AM
Auspicious beginning for the new Commander of the Army.
Asanka Monday, 05 August 2013 10:52 AM
O tempora o mores! RIP Son!

Government has given a warning to all of us DO NOT COME DOWN TO THE STREETS. if u do, this will be the fate. Now the SriLankan people are getting the taste of the Army once they loved.

a son should bury the mother and never a mother should bury her son.... such a tragic situation and very sad to see how things are handled and how low peoples lives have become in our country.. the military is killing who they protected earlier under the command and the watch of this regime... where has our country gone to.. these have never happened... is this our Sri Lanka????????
Lasantha Monday, 05 August 2013 12:05 PM
Time has come for every one to United and work towards the peaceful Sri Lanka. Act Now and otherwise what will be the future of our younger generation.
lal Monday, 05 August 2013 12:29 PM
This is a tragedy. Loss of an innocent life. As to what happened in 2009, the ENTIRE country is behind the army. I hope the govt will act in this instance.
Bucket Harry Monday, 05 August 2013 12:34 PM
In the North & East our security forces fought with not with the innocent Tamils but with the world's deadliest outfit called LTTE.
DeSelva Monday, 05 August 2013 01:23 PM
The Government claims that wheil fightig the deadliest LTTE not a single civilian was killed.
3 already killed for just asking for water?
hmmmm hard to comprehend
BuffaloaCitizen Monday, 05 August 2013 10:00 AM
The question is to find hero's and not cowards. The 1983 riots was by cowards. Can you find any similar gangs of that nature to undertake for a good cause like this? No, cannot, because we Sinhalese are cowards. We will fight only when we are superior but not for a cause or principle.
sunil Bernard Tuesday, 06 August 2013 01:14 AM
We have seen 10000s of dead bodies killed by LTTE and also during UNP and JVP fighting times.
One or two is nothing in this country.
That is the reality, if you like or not.
ravivararo Tuesday, 06 August 2013 07:10 AM
very sad fate to sinhalese too
dias Tuesday, 06 August 2013 07:29 AM
Is this is a cricket match the way people are shouting and hooting
Diga Tuesday, 06 August 2013 07:53 AM
Killing students and innocent people is a crime,a grave crime. the persons who fired fetal shots must bring in front of law and do justice.
Gihan Tuesday, 06 August 2013 09:31 AM
Sunil Bernard,
Is there any chance I can help you to go to school?
simple mind Monday, 05 August 2013 08:20 AM
Yes, only a mother knows the grief but unfortunately the leaders don't know. They only know the colour of money.
Anjula Monday, 05 August 2013 07:00 AM
I don't know how i can bear this incident. whenever i open the news paper i start crying & still can't believe whether SL Army involved to shoot to innocent peoples who made their protest for water.
hrm Monday, 05 August 2013 07:02 AM
A mother's grief is unmatched to any despite all the explanations/facts they were told about their irreplaceable loss.
May all those involved in this senseless crime rot in hell. RIP for the young lives lost.
Vaz Monday, 05 August 2013 07:06 AM
Can we bring Law and order back in the country? People in the country must understand now where we are heading to with those army involvement to civil administration. If not we have to get ready for another 71 or 89.
Wasantha Monday, 05 August 2013 07:16 AM
Everybody should curse this government which has blocked the peaceful living.
hemanthak Monday, 05 August 2013 07:32 AM
Entire country is watching to see who will get punished for the horrendous crime. Somebody from the army should take responsibility for shooting order. In a country like Japan, the Defence minister and Army Commander would have resigned. Unfortunately this happened in paradise! it is a shame !
pasel Monday, 05 August 2013 07:32 AM
now the entire country knows what the army did in 2009 against Tamils
ponil Monday, 05 August 2013 07:38 AM
Wasantha.. talk sense,
Aaron Singho Monday, 05 August 2013 07:39 AM
How could this happen? In a true democracy the people have a right to assemble and protest. Dissension is an integral part of any democracy. How could they use lethal force [fire] on unarmed citizens?
Wathsala Monday, 05 August 2013 07:59 AM
Shedding tears is not enough...work to get rid of the worst government in SL history ...sorry you guys only realize it now! We have a huge problem and it is called Family Owned Lanka full of conspiracy theories to fool the dumb masses!
Justice Monday, 05 August 2013 08:05 AM
The govt is a huge disappointment. There is no hope with this regime... Time is coming for a huge uprising. Change is coming soon.
unbiased Monday, 05 August 2013 08:17 AM
Here after i will not say that SL Army did not involve in war crimes :(
ANTON Monday, 05 August 2013 06:57 AM

How to console a mother in a time like this, what can anyone do.. how cruel this world is. Mothers love is eternal. I pray to god, to bless this innocent mother. The govt should first sack the brigadier who spoke like an idiot to the people of weliweriya.
surain lal Monday, 05 August 2013 08:51 AM
this is a brutal murder by the Army & police who are their to protect us
Mohamed Monday, 05 August 2013 09:04 AM
My heart goes out for the family of these innocent young men. What a heart breaking story! People's life has become so cheap in this country now and government is ready protect the interest of few privileged crooks and they can deploy country's army. I only hope that this country's justice prevails through some miracle or otherwise this will be worse than some of the worst places we have heard.
Rainbow Monday, 05 August 2013 09:09 AM
