The extension of the Central Expressway (E04) from Kurunegala to Dambulla will commence very soon, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
He said so at a meeting organised in Kurunegala explaining that the E04 was delayed due to regime changes from time to time. “We have inaugurated the construction work of the third stage of the E04 from Pothuhera to Galagedara recently under the E04 accelerated project”, he said.
"During the time of our previous Government, we started the expressway projects including the E04..However, when people voted for the United National Party (UNP) to power, those in that party did not continue the projects which we had initiated. They had used different agendas," he said.
"People have once again voted us to power. Since the projects did not progress, we had to restart them. If the then UNP Government had continued with the projects which we had initiated, the Expressway to Dambulla would have been completed long time ago,” the Premier added.
