The Court of Appeal has yesterday directed that the writ petition seeking the issuance of a writ order nullifying the gazette notification declaring the minimum daily wage of tea and rubber plantation workers to be Rs.1,000 is to be called on March 26.
The petition which has been filed by 20 plantation companies was taken up before a two judge bench of Justices Arjuna Obeysekara and Mayadunne Corea. Minister of Labour Nimal Siripala de Silva, Commissioner General of Labour Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Chairman of the Wages Board on the Tea Industry and 18 others have been named as respondents to the petition.
