A former Army Sergeant attached to the Army Special Force, popularly known as “Hokandara Rider” and another who had in their possession 6.320grams of heroin were arrested by Athurugiriya Police during a raid in Malabe early yesterday morning.
The police also recovered a stock of uniforms similar to those of the army, two live cartridges and a kris knife.
The duo had been travelling by trishaw when the police ambushed them on information received by OIC Athurugiriya Police CI -Sunilaka Rupasinghe and arrested the suspects. Police said the former SF sergeant had in his possession 5.860grams of heroin and his accomplice 460grams at the time of arrest.
Later the police searched the main suspect’s house in Hokandara North to find the stock of suspicious uniforms, two kriss knives and live cartridges. The suspects were produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate and detained on court order for seven days for further questioning. A police team under OIC Athurugiriya Police is conducting further investigations.
