The Chairman A.K Subaveera of The Ceylon Electricity Board Transport Workers Union has written to the General Manager of the CEB in connection to the approval obtained to hire about 2,500 to 3,000 vehicles for the Board’s use without proper assessment of the service requirement.
The Chairman had stated in his letter that the CEB spends Rs.3000 million annually and 250 million monthly.
We believe as the Transport Workers Union that the CEB which is running at a loss cannot bear up this unsustainable burden. Approval has been given by the CEB for a minimum monthly mileage of 2,000 kilometers for each vehicle. At the approved mileage 50 vehicles would run a minimum of 100,000 kms per month.
“Our members trust that most of these vehicles belong to Officers of the CEB and their acquaintances and they use these vehicles for their private purposes,” he said.
We believe that there is no need for private vehicles to be used if the correct procedures are followed according to the rules of the CEB.
