The maximum permitted transit time for passengers to transit via Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) had been restricted to maximum of six hours, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said today.
Speaking to Daily Mirror CAA’S Air Transport Regulation Director Rayhan Wanniappa said the CAA had taken the decision to minimise the COVID infection risks. The passengers must strictly possess a confirmed onward connection out of BIA.
“Aircraft can depart with passengers originating from Colombo, in addition to transit passengers or visiting tourists. “Freighters and humanitarian flights to BIA, landing over technical emergencies, emergency diversions are also allowed,” he said. He said that inbound flights to take away passengers would also be permitted to land. “Airlines are strictly instructed to follow the above instructions,” he said.(Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
