The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) would field its own candidate at the upcoming presidential election, SLFP Spokesperson MP Weerakumara Dissanayake said today.
He said the party’s General-Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara had conveyed this to the Election Commission.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror MP Jayasekara said they had not yet decided as to who would be the candidate and added it was only the decision.
When asked whether the decision would hamper the talks with the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP), MP Jayasekara said he would not think so and added that the talks had not yet come to a proper conclusion.
Meanwhile, Former SLFP General Secretary Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa told the Daily Mirror that the decision was taken after a proposal was unanimously passed at the recently held SLFP Central Committee meeting.

If Dayasiri J says that then we can safely assume that the SLFP won’t field it’s own candidate. He is one scumbag full of hot air.

Chandrika's influance. SLPP should forget about these 300,000 to 400,000 odd votes and focus on some other avenues to get the new flooting votes that will set off them. In the coming general election people will teach a good lesson for these culprits like Dayasiri, Duminda and Weerakumara

What kind of logic is there in your statement. You want to field your own candidate but still not given up talks with the SLPP.

Why is SLFP one of the main political parties in Sri Lanka going behind a man who was not even a parliment MP ,
