Following an inspection made to Galle Face Green, Minister of Roads & Highways, Ports and Shipping Johnston Fernando instructed officials to illuminate the surrounding coastal line and walking paths with solar-powered lighting to avoid the prevailing dimness around Galle Face Green.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority informed the minister that this project would commence within a month.
Minister Fernando also instructed the relevant officials to look into all aspects such as walking paths, coastal line and wind flow at the Galle Face Green prior to the implementation of the project to ensure an attractive surrounding, durability and standard. He also requested the official to complete the project immediately while ensuring President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s concept of beautifying the country. This project is viewed as eco-friendly as it make use of solar powered lights.
The idea of installing solar powered lighting at Galle Face Green came into being after a series of discussions since the first week of December on beautifying the Galle Face Green. (Nishantha Hewage)
