The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has decided to launch an island-wide work stoppage on Thursday, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.
“The strike will be staged with regard to several issues, mainly over the failure to legalise the minimum standards of medical education and amending of the service minute for doctors,” addressing a news briefing, Dr Aluthge said.
He said the strike action would be launched from Thursday 8.00 am to Friday 8.00 am.
However, Dr Aluthge said they had decided to carry out emergency services at all hospitals during the time of the strike.
“The strike action will not be in effect at all Maternity hospitals, Children hospitals, Apeksha Hospital – Maharagama, Renal Treatment Centers and Tri-Forces hospitals,” he said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
