Inspector-General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara and former defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando were further remanded till December 3 by Colombo Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage in connection with the April 21 suicide attacks.
At the outset of the inquiry, the CID in a report informed Court that they had checked 74 bank accounts but were unable to locate any belonging to Mr. Fernando while there were five in the name of Mr. Jayasundera at the National Savings Bank with one of them having a debit balance of Rs.280. The CID said as such the allegation by the Attorney General that the suspects were involved in money laundering proved to be false.
It said the investigations did not reveal any connections between the suspects and the proscribed National Thawheed Jamath (NTJ) group or to suicide bomber Zaharan.
