Twenty seven trains including two special trains are scheduled to be operated to Colombo from tomorrow (26) to accommodate 16,600 registered staff employees, Railways Department's Commercial Superintendent Vajira Polwatta said.
He said the two special trains are scheduled to be operated from Kandy and Belliatte tomorrow morning.
"The decision was taken after considering the fact that a large number of commuters have registered to come to Colombo than on previous occasions," he said.
Accordingly, the scheduled 27 trains are as follows: One train each from Kandy, Rambukkana, Polgahawela, Mirigama, Ragama, Maho, Chilaw, Negombo, Beliatta, Galle, Moratuwa, Avissawella, Kosgama, Padukka, Homagama and Kottawa.
Two trains each will operate from Gampaha, Aluthgama, Kalutara while three trains will be operating from Veyangoada.
The commuters are requested to arrive at train stations as earlier as possible to reserve their tickets.
“Tickets will be issued only for the people who have their service IDs. They should show their IDs to the respective station masters to register. After the registration, people can obtain a token to purchase tickets,” Mr Polwatta said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
